Flipoff Route to the Rim

Today's route stats:

    Distance: 2.0 miles

    Elevation Gain:  1700 feet

    Elevation Loss:  0 feet

Nobody was looking forward to climbing the 1700-foot steep and loose slope to the rim.  The day started out cold and everyone started out hiking with jackets.  We made good time, reaching the rim in about 2 hours.  After a short break we hiked through the Pinyon-Juniper to our cars, which took about 40 minutes.

This area (Kanab Creek Wilderness) does not appear to get many visitors.  We didn't see a single soul during our entire hike, although we did see some old footprints.

Once back at our cars, we quickly packed up and headed back on the long dirt road to the highway.  Here we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways.  I drove to Gallup where I spent the night.
